Behavioral Health Therapist
What I love most about working at City of Hope are the patients. Their willingness, strength, and persistence inspire me every day.
Kala Bailey, Behavioral Health Therapist at City of Hope, is a lifelong student of the healing arts. After serving for nearly 20 years as a Clinical Oncology Dietitian at City of Hope, Bailey transitioned to Behavioral Health, putting into practice different aspects of her extensive experience and training.
Bailey earned her Master of Arts in Counseling from National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. In addition, she holds a Master of Science in Food Systems Management from the University of Tennessee, a Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutrition from Western Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s in Communication from Western Illinois University.
She also holds several certifications in supportive care services. Bailey is a Master Reiki Practitioner and a certified Ayurvedic educator.
For Bailey, providing support to patients means treating the entire person. “I want our patients to feel whole despite whatever physical issues they are experiencing,” she says. She is passionate about helping them bridge the physical and emotional aspects of their healing as they learn to recognize the internal resources they have and how to use them in prioritizing and practicing self-care. She describes our patients’ experience as a “hero’s journey,” and she values the opportunity to accompany them on this journey as they find the meaning in what they are going through and re-vision their lives.
When she is not at City of Hope, Bailey enjoys being outside, gardening, and spending time with her family and two puppies.
