Vice President of Integrative Care Services
At City of Hope, we understand people who have cancer have needs in addition to cancer treatment—physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our team of experienced clinicians works together in an integrative setting with each patient's oncologist to make sure all those needs are met. This is so that patients may tolerate their cancer treatment with fewer side effects and maintain as normal a quality of life as possible.
As Vice President of Integrative Care Services at City of Hope Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix, Carolyn Lammersfeld oversees our unique treatment model, which combines innovative, state-of-the-art therapies to treat cancer with integrative services to reduce side effects and help patients maintain quality of life. Our cancer experts deliver this care in a patient-centered environment designed to meet the unique needs of each of our patients.
Lammersfeld joined City of Hope in October 1998 as Director of Nutrition at City of Hope Chicago. In January 2007, she was also appointed to the position of National Director of Nutrition to assist in launching nutrition programs for two new City of Hope hospitals and coordinating nutritional services throughout the enterprise. In March 2012, Lammersfeld was promoted to her present role.
Lammersfeld has worked tirelessly to pioneer the science of nutrition in cancer care by conducting and publishing clinical studies that document the outcomes of nutrition interventions. She continues to lead an ongoing effort to include nutrition in enterprise reporting of analytics with Dr. Pankaj Vashi. She has written numerous research protocols, including obtaining an IND to use OMEGAVEN® for PN-induced hepatic injury. She also regularly represents City of Hope at national nutrition conferences.
Lammersfeld’s accomplishments include the development of a nutrition assessment template for the City of Hope Electronic Health Records system, as well as branded nutrition education materials and resources.
Lammersfeld is a licensed and registered dietitian who is board certified in oncology nutrition and nutrition support. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She completed a post-graduate internship and master's degree in clinical nutrition at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, Rush University in Chicago. She also earned a master’s degree in business administration in health care management from Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University in Chicago.
Prior to City of Hope, Lammersfeld served in numerous positions, including at the University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
