Walter Stadler, MD, FACP, is the Chief Clinical Officer for City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago. In this senior leadership role, Dr. Stadler oversees clinical care and innovation for patients in the Chicagoland and surrounding areas, works closely with other clinical leaders across the City of Hope national network and serves patients as a medical oncologist specializing in treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers.
A Chicago native, Dr. Stadler was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by his desire to help others. He joined City of Hope after 30 years at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he held clinical positions focusing on genitourinary cancers while serving in a variety of leadership roles, including Section Chief for Hematology/Oncology, Dean for Clinical Research, and Deputy Director of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“In taking on this role at City of Hope, one of my goals is to expand and extend the world class care and research provided by the City of Hope system closer to where patients live.,” says Dr. Stadler. “I believe the national scale of City of Hope lends itself to doing this in a way that can be a model for the country.”
Dr. Stadler received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., then completed an internal medicine residency at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, along with a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Chicago.
A widely published scholar with more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and over 300 abstracts and scientific presentations to his name, Dr. Stadler’s research interests include new drug development in genitourinary cancers and enhanced access to clinical trials for underserved communities. He is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research and the Society for Clinical and Translational Science.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Stadler enjoys spending time with his family and officiating youth soccer games.
