About Me

Sabrina René, MD, is an Endocrinologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta, where she specializes in treating patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer  and other hormone-related disorders.

Dr. René, who has 25 years’ experience as a clinical provider, was inspired to pursue a medical career after her uncle died from liver cancer. She fell in love with the field of endocrinology during a clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At City of Hope, she focuses on diagnosing and treating patients with endocrine conditions such as thyroid cancer, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, bringing her yearslong expertise in the diagnostic interpretation of thyroid ultrasounds and performing fine-needle and aspirate biopsies of thyroid nodules.

“My approach is to be very thorough,” says Dr. René. “I want my patients to know what’s going on and educate them so that they understand their condition and treatment options.”

Recognizing the need for more established endocrinology care at our Georgia cancer center, Dr. René joined City of Hope on a permanent basis in January, 2025. Prior to that, she had spent a decade serving City of Hope’s patients as a consultant. Dr. René has also held numerous leadership positions in endocrinology practices across Georgia including her solo practice in 2003.

After earning her medical degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Dr. René completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville in Florida, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Emory University in Atlanta. She’s a member of the Endocrine Society, Georgia Society of Endocrinologists and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. Dr. René’s research agenda has included phase 3 and phase 4 clinical trials, and she’s earned multiple awards over the course of her career, including recognition as a “Top Doctor of America” in endocrinology every year from 2017 to 2024 and on Georgia Magazine’s “Best in Georgia” doctors lists for 2024. She also received recognition as a Pinnacle Professional Member of the Continental Who’s Who for contributions in endocrinology in 2024.

Outside City of Hope, Dr. René enjoys spending time with her husband and is passionate about the arts, culture and music with a particular interest in jazz.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
