Radiation Oncologist
Working in a small community has allowed me to really get to know my patients. I like to personally call them to give them results and check in on them.

Jonathan Moayyad, MD, joined our City of Hope hospital in Phoenix, Arizona and the Outpatient Care Center in North Phoenix in May 2023 as a Radiation Oncologist, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to treat a variety of types and stages of cancer while preserving quality of life. Using innovative, leading-edge radiation technology and treatments, Dr. Moayyad and his team improve patients’ well-being and quality of life while also prioritizing building meaningful relationships with them.
“My goal is to carry out patients’ treatment plans while making them feel as comfortable as possible,” Dr. Moayyad explains. “I like to spend time with my patients, answering their questions and explaining procedures and treatment options to them in detail.”
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Dr. Moayyad earned his medical degree from the University of Texas at Health Houston McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas. He went on to complete an internal medicine internship at Yale Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and a radiation oncology residency at the University of California in Irvine, California.
During his rotations in medical school, he became interested in cancer care, initially planning a career in surgical oncology. After working with a melanoma patient who was undergoing Gamma Knife®, a stereotactic radiosurgery treatment that uses precise beams of gamma rays to treat disease, he became fascinated with the field of radiation oncology. He especially enjoys the structure it provides and how it combines science and technology with patient care.
Dr. Moayyad is well-published, having written papers and abstracts on topics ranging from radioembolization and salvage stereotactic radiosurgery in recurrent lymphoma to post-mastectomy radiation in women with hereditary BRCA mutations. He’s also skilled and trained in sophisticated radiation techniques, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D CRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), image-guided radiation therapy and much more, and has significant training and experience in intracavitary and interstitial high dose rate (HDR)brachytherapy for gynecologic malignancies.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Moayyad enjoys traveling, especially to West Palm Beach and Naples, Florida. He loves cars, specifically Porches, and likes to stay active with exercise.
