Firas Shadad, MD, is a Medical Oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, where he specializes in treating patients diagnosed with a wide range of solid tumor types. Board-certified in medical oncology, Dr. Shadad has two decades of experience working with patients diagnosed with genitourinary cancers, such as those affecting the prostate, bladder, kidneys and testicles, as well as gastrointestinal conditions like colorectal, pancreatic and gastric cancer.
Dr. Shadad was drawn to City of Hope because his philosophy as a physician closely aligned with the institution’s approach to cancer care.
“I was inspired by the opportunity to provide multidisciplinary care to patients while being surrounded by some of the best cancer specialists in the Valley,” he says. He brings this collaborative ethos into the clinic, working closely with patients, their loved ones and physician colleagues to craft a treatment plan that takes both the cancer and the patient’s quality of life into account.
“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to use leading-edge technology and scientific advancements to help people,” he says. “It’s a privilege to be part of my patients’ journey during the most vulnerable period of their lives.”
Dr. Shadad earned his medical degree at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He then went on to complete his internal medicine training with an internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A collaborator on several phase 2 clinical studies focusing on multiple myeloma and pancreatic cancer, Dr. Shadad has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He’s also served as a physician administrator and leader throughout his career, including as Cancer Committee Chair for two American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer accreditation surveys.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Shadad spends time with his family, attends sporting events and enjoys pursuing his personal fitness goals. In addition to English, he speaks fluent Arabic.
