Psychiatrist
Dr. Bryan Lao, M.D., a psychiatrist and assistant clinical professor of supportive care medicine at City of Hope® Cancer Center, is dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of patients at every stage of their medical journey. With a passion for compassionate care, Dr. Lao promotes resilience and hope, helping individuals navigate the emotional complexities of illness while fostering a supportive environment for healing. He utilizes a combination of medications, psychotherapy, and/or behavioral interventions, tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
After earning his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, Dr. Lao completed his residency in general psychiatry with an emphasis on psychotherapy at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. He also completed a psychiatry consultation-liaison fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, and is currently working on an M.B.A. at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
A member of professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, Dr. Lao is a physician-scholar who has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and presented at conferences throughout the United States.
