About Me

Andrea Ziegler, MD, FACS, is an otolaryngology specialist with City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago’s Head and Neck Surgery Program , where she specializes in treating benign and malignant tumors affecting the mouth, throat, voice box, sinuses, salivary glands, thyroid and skin. A board-certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Ziegler is also fellowship-trained in a variety of surgical techniques, including transoral robotic surgery and other complex reconstructive procedures.

Dr. Ziegler was first drawn to working with oncology patients during medical school. “Patients with head and neck cancer  often face life-altering issues, and several aspects of survival, function and appearance have to be considered and handled delicately,” she says. “Ultimately, I want to help people navigate their complex cancer diagnosis and next steps.”

Prior to joining City of Hope Chicago, Dr. Ziegler was an associate clinical professor at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois and continues to serve in that role. She also completed her residency in otolaryngology at Loyoal University Medical Center. She earned her medical degree at the St. Louis School of Medicine in Missouri and completed a fellowship in head and neck surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

Dr. Ziegler, who chose to pursue a career in medicine in order to help others, is excited to be at City of Hope, where “patients with cancer have a medical center dedicated to their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.”

A physician-scholar with more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Ziegler has also presented nationally on topics including HPV-related cancers and reconstructive microsurgery for head and neck cancers. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and American Head and Neck Society, as well as serving as an executive council member for the Chicago Laryngological and Otologic Society.

Outside City of Hope, Dr. Ziegler likes to spend time with her family, travel and try out new restaurants.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
