It takes a team of cancer experts to fight a complex disease like cancer. Treatment approaches and technologies are constantly evolving, providing patients with a growing array of medications, therapies and tools to diagnose and attack the disease. The treatment options available to each person may vary, depending not just on the cancer type, but on the patient’s individual needs. That’s why, when deciding on an appropriate cancer treatment plan, it is essential to turn to skilled doctors and clinicians trained in cancer care, from diagnosis and treatment, to side effect management and survivorship.
At City of Hope, our expert oncologists treat every stage of cancer. This means using the advanced tools of precision medicine and state-of-the-art technologies to quickly and accurately diagnose the disease. It includes developing a thorough treatment plan to attack the cancer, while supporting cancer patients with evidence-informed supportive therapies designed to reduce side effects and improve their quality of life. Expert cancer care means treating the cancer while compassionately caring for the person fighting it.
Being surrounded by a team of cancer experts allows patients to explore cancer treatment options sooner. The cancer doctors at City of Hope can recommend a treatment plan that is individualized for each patient's cancer type and needs, designed to help him or her manage side effects and get back to life.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) is now City of Hope®, joining forces to expand patient access to personalized, comprehensive cancer care.
No two cancers, like no two people, are exactly alike. Breast cancer, for example, comes with a very different set of symptoms and risk factors than colorectal or prostate cancer. And one person’s colorectal cancer may behave differently than another’s, depending on its DNA profile, with each requiring a different treatment approach. That’s why it is important to turn to doctors who are experienced in treating not just cancer, but a specific type of cancer. An oncologist with advanced training in treating lung cancer, for example, may be more proficient in the complexities of that particular disease and its various treatment options than one who treats all cancer types.
The City of Hope team includes board-certified specialists with advanced training and expertise in specific cancers—from breast, lung, prostate and colorectal cancers to melanoma and lymphoma—as well as various treatment options available to fight them.

The specialists are only some of the members of our extensive team of cancer experts. Because each cancer patient is unique, cancer care should be personalized to meet his or her specific needs. At City of Hope, each patient is assigned a care team of cancer doctors and clinicians. Some, like the medical or radiation oncologist, will be dedicated to treating the cancer. Others, such as the dietitian or the pain management physician, help patients manage the side effects of cancer, to reduce the risk of treatment delays and improve their quality of life, so they can focus on healing. The care team works in the same location, meets regularly about the patient's personal treatment plan and collaborates to keep him or her strong throughout treatment. Depending on each patient's needs and preferences, the care team may include these experts:
