“My work is aimed at helping patients maintain or regain their independence,” says Todd Lane, Occupational Therapist at City of Hope Atlanta. “The best success is when patients no longer need me.”
Lane studied occupational therapy at Keuka College in New York, completing his Bachelor of Science in 1997. He is a licensed occupational therapist by the State of Georgia. He is also certified in complete decongestive therapy, a treatment for lymphedema, by the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy.
Beginning in 1999, Lane served for 15 years as an occupational therapist with a private rehabilitation facility. He provided care at several different clinics, evaluating and treating patients coping with orthopedic, neurologic, post-surgical and other medical conditions, receiving awards for excellence during his tenure. He also educated families and provided follow-up guidance and care after discharge. As Director of Rehabilitation for one clinic in the facility, he managed the occupational therapy service and staff and was responsible for seeing that the care provided remained at high standards.
Lane subsequently provided occupational therapy at a large regional hospital in Georgia, evaluating and creating treatment plans for acute-care patients.
At City of Hope, where he has served since March 2015, Lane assists patients in becoming more mobile and independent during and following cancer treatment. He treats lymphedema using a range of treatment techniques, including manual lymphatic drainage and decongestive therapy. He also provides education on pre- and post-mastectomy care and other concerns.
When he is not at City of Hope, Lane is usually with his wife and their three children. He enjoys swimming, walking, playing and watching sports, and making people laugh.
