ATLANTA — City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta today announced the appointment of Shady Eldaif, M.D., as their new director of Thoracic Oncology. In his role, Eldaif will be responsible for the coordination of their clinical team as well as the expansion and development of treatments, techniques and technology for thoracic cancer. He will also provide direct patient care as a thoracic surgeon.
“We are excited to expand City of Hope Atlanta’s Thoracic Oncology team with such an experienced leader,” said Jonathan Watkins, president of City of Hope Atlanta. “Dr. Eldaif is well-known for his expertise and clinical leadership in the Georgia health care space. His talent and knowledge will make a considerable impact on our department to ensure we are offering leading-edge treatment options for thoracic cancer patients in the southeast.”
Eldaif has successfully completed over 1,600 complex robotic thoracic surgical cases to date and is extremely specialized in a wide array of minimally-invasive robotic and precision surgical techniques, including Ivor Lewis esophagectomy, robotic hyperthermic intraoperative chemotherapy, thymectomy, sleeve lobectomy and segmentectomy, to name a few. He joins City of Hope from Northside Hospital, where he served as a thoracic surgeon, inaugural system chief of Thoracic Surgery and director of Robotic Thoracic Oncology and Foregut Surgery. Eldaif has contributed to nearly two dozen oncology presentations; authored or contributed to almost twenty oncology publications or submissions; and has previously engaged as a research fellow with Emory University Hospital’s Cardiothoracic Research Laboratory.
Board certified as a diplomate with the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Eldaif’s clinical focus on thoracic surgical oncology is driven by a desire to offer curative and minimally invasive treatments that provide the maximum quality of life experience for his patients.
