About Me

Salman A. Eraj, MD, MBA, joined City of Hope Atlanta in August 2023 as a radiation oncologist treating patients diagnosed with all types of cancer.

Since earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas, Dr. Eraj has developed expertise in a variety of radiation therapy technologies, including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), Gamma Knife® and CyberKnife® radiosurgery and high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.

Dr. Eraj has had a lifelong curiosity for science. While he considered careers in business and technology, he was drawn to the medical field at an early age, inspired by both parents’ impact as physicians. He felt an even stronger pull to the field of oncology after his father died during a battle with cancer when Dr. Eraj was finishing his final year of college.

With the guidance of a mentor at nearby M.D. Anderson Medical Center, Dr. Eraj was drawn to the field of radiation oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

“The technology and advancements in radiation oncology are incredible and so fascinating,” Dr. Eraj says. “I find this field to be almost magical. Patients lie on a table, and we apply beams of radiation they can’t even see to their bodies—and yet it can be a game changer, a life saver, for them."

Dr. Eraj was drawn to City of Hope by his desire to practice in a hospital focused on treating cancer, collaborating with peers who are just down the hallway.

“During my training, I experienced working in huge academic centers and large hospitals,” he says. “Now, I can see firsthand the difference made by integrative cancer care. Working in proximity alongside medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and specialized providers is such a benefit for both doctors and patients.”

After earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He then completed a radiation oncology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, serving as chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Eraj also earned his Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in Healthcare Leadership and Management, graduating with High Distinction. He’s a member of a number of organizations, including the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Eraj has authored a wide range of publications on innovative radiotherapies and regularly lectured on these topics during his residency. Highly awarded for his research, he received the Texas Radiological Society’s RANT/Moorefield Fellowship in Economics and Health Policy, the Alpha Omega Alpha Carolyn L. Kuckein Research Fellowship and the Lefeber Oral Presentation Award in Aging Research at the National Student Research Forum.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Eraj is an avid hiker. After growing up in Texas, he’s enjoyed exploring the state of Georgia and developing an interest in gardening.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
