About Me

For Jennifer Spicer, a Physician Assistant in surgical oncology at City of Hope Phoenix, providing quality care means treating the whole patient. “City of Hope does more than support that level of care; it encourages it,” says Spicer.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Spicer turned her focus to becoming a physician assistant. She completed her Bachelor of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Midwestern University, graduating summa cum laude and valedictorian. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Bioethics.

Spicer has been a practicing physician assistant for more than a decade. She has worked in general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology and interventional radiology, in a range of settings that include small group practices and large hospitals. Her skills range from basic procedures such as biopsies, to more intensive surgical interventions, including thoracotomies and coronary bypasses. She has worked with cancer patients for many years and is adept with port placement and removal, evaluations, coordinating care with several specialists, and many other procedures commonly employed during cancer treatment.

With City of Hope since June 2015, Spicer is dedicated to patient care. She assists on surgeries for a wide range of cancers, as well as reconstructive surgery, breast-conserving procedures and mastectomies. She focuses her time in particular on microvascular free-flap reconstruction procedures and minimally invasive robotic surgeries. She works closely with patients before, during and after their procedures, to help ensure that their needs are taken into account.

Spicer is a Certified Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is also certified by the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants and the Physician Assistant Committee of California. She has completed specialized training in the Da Vinci® Surgical System.

When she is not at City of Hope, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, or relaxing with a long walk or a good book.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
