About Me

Irati Rodríguez-Matesanz, MSN, FNP-BC, joined City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta in May 2022 and became an Advanced Practice Professional in August 2023. As a Family Nurse Practitioner in Breast Oncology at City of Hope Atlanta, Rodríguez-Matesanz provides care to patients with breast cancer, delivering family-centered and survivorship care with a focus on maintaining each patient’s quality of life and supporting the overall patient experience. Her role as a Family Nurse Practitioner builds on her seven years of experience as a registered nurse in medical oncology, emergency medical services and primary care.

“My goal is to deliver the best possible outcomes by providing excellent, evidence-based care,” Rodríguez-Matesanz says. “I make sure to attend to the numerous factors that can impact our patients, including the complexity of disease and the different ways cancer and its treatment can affect quality of life for them and their families.”

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of the Basque Country in San Sebastian, Spain, Rodríguez-Matesanz went on to earn her Master of Science in nursing at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. She then completed post-master’s training as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, and is certified by the Georgia Board of Nursing.

Dedicated to helping to advance health research, Rodríguez-Matesanz is co-author of peer-reviewed scientific publications on the impact of nursing care on cancer survivors’ quality of life, as well as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on nurses’ mental health. For six years, she was part of the epidemiology and public health research team at Biodonostia Health Research Institute, where she assisted with studies into issues connected to frailty in older adults.

Rodríguez-Matesanz is a member of the Spanish Oncology Nursing Society, the U.S.-based Oncology Nursing Society and the European Oncology Nursing Society, which she serves as co-chair and Spanish representative for the Early Career Nurses working group. At the University of Navarre, she is an invited guest speaker for the graduate oncology nursing certification program.

Learning languages comes naturally to Rodríguez-Matesanz. In addition to full professional proficiency in English, she is a native bilingual speaker of Spanish and Basque who has basic knowledge of German and the capacity to read Portuguese.

Outside of City of Hope, she enjoys hiking, especially when accompanied by friends and her dog. She also likes world travel, savoring the opportunity to understand different cultures (as well as the chance to try all the food).

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
